Venous Disease
Chronic Venous Insufficiency
Comprehensive Vein Treatment Center in Puget Sound
Arteries hold blood as it travels from the heart to the rest of the body. And then veins transport blood back toward the heart. Arteries work with the forces of gravity to transport blood downward toward your feet, while veins must work against gravity to move blood upward. Venous disease, such as varicose veins, affects the blood vessels carrying blood toward the heart.
One-way valves help veins by trapping blood within small segments of the blood vessels between heartbeats. This prevents blood from flowing backward, or refluxing, and pooling in the veins in your lower legs. Pooling blood increases pressure inside the veins, and your body responds by expanding the veins to accommodate excess blood. Chronic reflux causes the veins to bloat, twist and become dysfunctional. Larger diseased veins lying close to the skin on the lower legs appear as varicose veins.
At Sound Vascular, we offer a number of advanced treatment options for vein disease. The most common treatment option for varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency treatment is Endovenous Thermal Ablation (EVTA). This is a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure. The treatment utilizes high-frequency radio waves that are directed throughout a thin tube to create intense heat within the varicose vein. As a result, blood cannot flow through the problematic vessel and is redirected to healthy veins. Other treatment options at Sound Vascular include sclerotherapy, to treat spider veins, and phlebectomy, involving the complete removal of the diseased veins.
